Private Archibald Dicks
On the 10th March 1903, after the end of the Boer
War, the 1st Battalion embarked for Singapore on the SS Dilwara arriving
on the 30th March at the Tanglin Barracks
This is a collection of photos from my collection
from Archibald from that time
Archibald was called up for the Great war and joined
the 2/6th, probably first in a training role and the going into france
with the 66th Division
His service number in the great war was 6045 and
then later changed to 252765 on 1917
The original pictures are mounted on card, in perfect
condition
I also have some original letters to him from his
family in Birmingham telling of the death of his parents and inquiring
after him in Singapore
he was born in 1880.
He died 4 Feb 1946. He is buried in Brandwood End Cemetry, Birmingham
B6b section grave no 1166 with his Sister and her husband.
His brother Harry was also in the Army, he was 6723
